Musicophilia

A doctor writes a book about music. This promises an adventure since his name is Oliver Sacks – one of the most renowned neurologists of the world. 

The New York-based author knows how to guide us deep into the world of the human mind and brain. In different case studies he turns the spotlight on phenomena like earworms, synesthesia, tinnitus or a short-term recovery from illnesses like Alzheimer and Parkinson disease. 

The music theatre Musicophilia based on Sacks’s eponymous book leads the audience to exciting, poetic areas of perception. With newly composed worlds of sound and imagery the connection between music and its effects on our brain and behavior is explored artistically. The boundaries between interior and exterior experience become blurred into a scenic-choreographic kaleidoscope of light, movement and music and find a »compelling manifestation« (Süddeutsche Zeitung).
